Marc J. Levine, MD Named Chairman of Orthopedic Surgery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and for the Southern Region of Hackensack Meridian Health

We are proud to announce that Marc J. Levine, MD has been named Chairman of Orthopedic Surgery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Chairman of Orthopedic Surgery for the Southern Region of Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH).

In these roles, Dr. Levine will lead orthopedic surgical care across one of New Jersey’s largest health networks, guiding clinical standards, mentoring surgical teams, and shaping how orthopedic and spine care is delivered to patients throughout the region.

A Leader Patients and Physicians Already Trust

The appointment reflects more than two decades of work at the front of his field. Dr. Levine is a fellowship trained, board certified orthopedic spine surgeon who has built his reputation on a simple standard: get the diagnosis right, then choose the treatment the patient actually needs.

That standard has earned him roles few surgeons hold. He served as the 51st President of the Eastern Orthopedic Association, representing orthopedic surgeons from Maine to Florida, and as the 227th President of the Medical Society of New Jersey, the nation’s oldest medical society, founded in 1766. He was named one of NJBiz’s Healthcare Power of 50, and during the pandemic he was selected to serve on the New Jersey Covid-19 Professional Advisory Committee, helping guide state health policy through the crisis.

He continues to teach as a clinical assistant professor at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, and since 2017 has served as Spine Program Chair for the annual Orthopedic Summit and Evolving Techniques (OSET), an international meeting of spine specialists.

What This Means for Patients

For patients, the leadership change reinforces what has always defined Dr. Levine’s practice. He treats the full range of spinal conditions, from disc bulges, herniation, and sciatica to deformity, fractures, sports injuries, motor vehicle and workers compensation injuries. He uses both traditional and minimally invasive techniques, and when surgery is the right answer, outpatient spine surgery can often be achieved.

Just as important, Dr. Levine offers comprehensive non-operative care and second opinions, supported by a coordinated team of neurologists, physical medicine specialists, pain management specialists, and radiologists. His practice remains 100% dedicated to the management of spinal disorders.

A Continued Commitment

Stepping into regional leadership does not change the way Dr. Levine works with the people in front of him. He still takes the time to walk each patient through their anatomy, their injury, and their imaging, so they understand their condition and their path forward before any decision is made.

This is not only our mission, but our promise.
