In the second quarter of 2024, five distinguished spine and orthopedic surgeons were recognized for their exceptional contributions to the medical field. Among them, Dr. Marc Levine stood out, earning the prestigious 2024 DeGroote Award from the Medical Society of New Jersey.

 

Dr. Marc Levine

Dr. Marc Levine, director of orthopedic spine surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton, received the 2024 DeGroote Award. This award honors his exemplary service in the medical profession, marking a significant achievement in his dedicated career in orthopedic spine surgery.

Dr. Steven Glassman

Dr. Steven Glassman of Norton Leatherman Spine in Louisville, Ky., was named an honorary member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. This recognition, the first since 2007, celebrates Dr. Glassman’s efforts to promote collaboration between orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons.

Dr. Michael Ciccotti

Dr. Michael Ciccotti, an orthopedic surgeon at Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, was honored by the Philadelphia Phillies for his 30 years of service. As he retires from his role, Dr. Ciccotti received a custom-framed glove, a unique honor traditionally reserved for players, celebrating his contributions as head team physician and medical director.

Dr. Drew Spencer

Dr. Drew Spencer, medical director of neurosurgery at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital in Palos Heights, Ill., was awarded the inaugural St. George Foundation Distinguished Physician Award for neurosurgery. This award highlights his exceptional achievements and dedication to neurosurgery.

Dr. Steven B. Haas

Dr. Steven B. Haas, chief of the knee service at New York City’s Hospital for Special Surgery, was recognized by the hospital for his outstanding work. Along with radiology chair Dr. Hollis Potter, Dr. Haas’s contributions have significantly advanced orthopedic surgery and patient care.

These honors showcase the remarkable achievements of these five surgeons, whose work continues to drive excellence and innovation in spine and orthopedic surgery.
